Columbus settling in

On 4/20 we drove to Columbus, Texas, to the rv park there. The woman let me check in with out paying, I said I would like to stay a  couple of nights to a couple of months. She is very opinionated. She don't like that my dogs are not fixed.  She has seven chickens and a male turkey. I like having them around, it reminds me of my animals that I got rid of. Some of her chickens look just like what mine did. I think she said she has 12 cats. She even has a cat house across from the office for them.  A lot of the people here are long term. Some men and family's here are working on the pipeline. I am going to post a sign for work, maybe I can make a little money while here.
I am close to everything. I have rode the bike out to walmart, down town, to the hardware store. I even found a farmers market, on Fridays from 4 to 7pm. I liked the farmers market. Stands of produce, Indian food, preserves, nuts and oranges, oils and soaps, bags and kitchen towels. My back pack and front bag on bike was full. I hauled boards home from the hardware store too. It is flat around here so it is all pedaling but not to bad. I am going to continue to explore this land. The Colorado River it close by and 10 and 90, I am right off of 71.  I have ordered some things off line like dog food and it will be delivered soon. I am hoping to sit put while Ella has pups and also get the front top corner worked on. The seam came apart.
Lots of storms around here. I don't have my awning out and glad I don't, because I probably wouldn't have it. The wind rocks you to sleep, sometimes you think you are on a boat. I have had some tree frogs using my rv for their home. Here I put the front window cover on and the tree frog likes to be under it and I can watch it from the inside, I watch it chirp, it sounds like a birds of some sort.  I don't mind being here, but sitting still is not easy for me, I have found. I get bored easy and need to ride the bike around to see what I can see or do. Playing with the dogs is a must, they wear out pretty fast, and I have found that after a hard playing I can leave them all in the rv and go away for a while and every thing is alright and in order.  Getting ready for puppies, any day now. Maybe four!

garage and Bastrop, on lake

4/13/15  We had storms very early this morning, but then it cleared and was hot. I went out to walmart to get a few groceries, quarters and was hoping my phone would sync with the Internet. The phone never did. I had a little service at the headquarters here but very limited. I did look up some rv repair places, so I will call tomorrow. I did some laundry tonight. O happy time, on my way to the laundry I got a up close and personal with an armadillo. It was so cute, it let me watch it while being pretty close.
On my way out today I stopped and paid for two more nights. It is cheap to stay here and o so beautiful. Hopping to do another lake and trail tomorrow. I washed the windows and o what a difference, I can see.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4/18/15 -I will try to back track.  I did do another lake and this time the alligators weren’t as mellow. Some opened their mouths and growled at me. The one left his mouth open as I rode past. Very nice lake, I stopped a couple of time to look or watch.  (the day before I went up a observation tower, and later learned that it was rate high or number one for national geographic - observation towers.)
The one alligator was about 12 or more feet. Big he did open his mouth and growled. He was sitting half way across the path. He then stood up and walked slowly and heavily into the water.
The park around the lake was pretty too. I noticed these big areas that were all dug up and was thinking maybe a big foot, but it turns out that it was probably pigs. I hear they cause a lot of damage around here.
The dogs and I rode around the last lake that I didn’t get to and we finished at the site by two, then went and parked at bathroom. I stopped to get a shower before leaving this gorgeous land.  O and the dogs ran another bike ride with me.  They did great.
We headed down the road to the garage, chugging along, stalled once was getting hot, but finally found the garage. Dillard’s mechanical specialists.
O my, I pulled in on Wednesday evening and left on Friday about 1ish. The people were so nice. The first evening They gave me an electric cord to plug in and took me with them up to get some food.  They worked and worked on  the rv the next day and still couldn’t find the problem. They found that the man that did my tune up, put three different kinds of spark plugs in it and some were Chevy plugs. He didn’t change all of them and one wire was not replaced. Transmission fluid was down about half a quart.  So we had to stay the night, he was going to clean the carbon out of the engine the next day.
We were sitting beside the building and had a big growed up lot next to me. It was so pretty, their was a house there once.
I went to bed thinking that I might have to find a new home. Then the next day he was cleaning the carbon out of the engine and found that the gas had a lot of water in it. He used a product in the gas to get rid of the water and that is what the problem was.  I got bad gas, a whole tank on Galveston Island, and the men said that they have bought gas from the island and had this happen too. So now I know. But any way, they were great people , bringing me water and snacks, a chair and talking. Letting me take the dogs in the office.  They owners lived in an rv behind the garage and has a couple of dogs. The children are the workers in the office and the garage. They put all new spark plugs and fixed the wire and fixed a bad gasket on the catylac converter. To go from thinking it was done to driving it down the road was crazy.  It is running better than it ever did. I cant believe that getting bad gas could make a vehicle act that way.
So we pulled in to Bastrop State Park on Friday and I decided to stay the week end and leave on Monday at 2. I will be looking for a place to settle down a couple of months to have puppies.  Anyway Friday, I just got set up and it started to storm, then later I rode down for a shower.  I seen the lake an the overlook here and rode the bike down satuday morning to rent a canoe for the day, well I had to have to paddle and life jacket back by 330.  I rode down a big hill 35 mile for sure I did coming down. Knew for sure that I would have to walk back up that one.  O was it scary taking the canoe out on the water, I though I was going to flip.  But I went out a little ways and rocked the boat to get a feel of it, and then I was fine. I went the whole way around. Stopped many times. Ate my lunch on the water. I enjoyed this very much. I was the only one out on the lake. Some were fishing though.
I then rode back of course I had to walk the hill, it was steep too. Back at headquarters and bought a Popsicle. Ate it on my way back to camp.  The woods around here are called the lost pines, because there was a fire and left the burned trees standing. The new growth is low the to the ground still. The lake looks aerated too. It don’t look balanced yet, but people are here, they have groups too.  We have a full hook up and large lot. The dogs have a large fenced in area. My front end looks out over the forest and I watched the lightning the other evening. The trees stand naked bare and exposed. The dead standing tall. Watch your head for you never do know when one might just fall.  Sad and baron one might think, but change bringing new life can be beautiful. Lot of birds, rabbits turtles, frogs, fish and o I seen a lizard.  Saw some different looking ducks of some sort. I will post pictures.

5 on a bike ride or run

4/12/15   A little after getting up this morning I though I could try riding the bike with all four dogs. I have rode with Ella before but never any of the others. Of course I would have to watch my speed. I hitched everyone up and went. They did real good. They listened to voice commands and didn’t try to stop for everything. I was amazed at how good they did, Mister would run sometimes, wanting to pull  but stayed back.   Closer to the end of the ride, a squirrel ran across the road, then Rosy didn’t mind running, they gave me a jerk but we kept right on going. It was fun and they all got a really good run. A man stopped by while driving out and was talking to me and yeah first thing this morning I had some children wanting to come in my fence to pet the dogs, and they did.  Then finally I put the dogs away and went on a bike ride. I did several trails and went around the 40 acre lake. I saw many alligators, one time I was looking the other way and came with in 2 feet of a big ones tail. Scary, one started to walk up the bank too. I would not take my dogs on this trail. One man did and I was watching because he had to walk past two big alligators that were on the path. The man had the dog between him and the alligators and that dog look towards the mans legs the whole time and just walked right through. I saw many different birds and insects. Squirrels and turtles a big bull frog. Two of the turtles were red sliders and about as big as basket balls. I almost ran over a snake on a path. It was only a garter snake.  The dragon flies flew with me down the road. I enjoyed the dragon flies.  I heard that someone’s fancy dogs were running lose and couldn’t find them. This is no place for dogs to be running around.
-Something gave some of the dogs diarrhea. I gave wormer to all and brushed them with some oil to reply bugs. Not sure if water, or dead grass, bugs or what gave them diarrhea but it should be better soon. The dogs normally don’t have flea problems, but days back I came across some. They were around another dog that had fleas. They seem to be gone now that I started using more neem oil and they get extra brewers yeast on their food.
I will run a cycle of wormer and bath then again soon. Ella is getting big and starting to have extra pressure on her bladder, so making sure she has extra trips out is necessary. - I think I may stay here longer and look for an rv shop to have a few things done to the rv, before heading on. I really like this area. You have a lake here and a swamp there, then a prairie on the other side, all with in feet of each other. It attracts a lot of animals.

Stitch-n-bike, Visit to Stitch and family.

Alvin & Brazos Bend

4/11/15 We left Galveston Island and went to Alvin to visit a pup from my last litter. Spot is what I called him, He is now Stitch. He looks so good and happy. Short and stout, has Vignettes face. The dogs and pups played. Then the brother(Stitch) and sister (Beanie/Amber) played and he gave Beanie a run for it. She finally had some of her own medicine. She slept good after, but we had a nice visit. It was over an hour. He looked so good, I will put pictures on.  I am so glad we went to see him.
-We went to Brazos Bend State Park today, and is it ever nice, a must see. O the trees are big and the grass is green and deer and right in the back yard and everywhere. Birds, squirrels and alligators, o my… I took a small bike ride to see my resources and to see the land. I could just stay here. This park is very big, I think like 5,000 acres?  I want to ride some trails and look around. After setting up, I got the beach wagon out and loaded it with laundry and shower items. I then rode the bike pulling the wagon. It worked and was able to do laundry and shower, and then I walked back to pick it up. It was not far walking either. One time the dogs were out in fence and the deer would be close by. I will put some pictures of that too.
-O and the garden has been restored to almost as it was. Larger plants are fine, I even harvest some out for supper. But for the seedlings, I cant say many survived.  I wasn’t sure what to do about the wind getting in, seeing I all ready had side panels, so today I plastic wrapped it and then put the side panels on and more bungees and it worked. It traveled just fine. I should perfect it and patent it.
